ReCompute Recycling
is the Recycling Arm of the Former GNetTek Computer Repair Shop in Greenfield, MA owned by Doug Gordon.
- It's not something new, we've been involved in recycling and reuse of computers for many years but in response to the growing problem of computer waste filling landfills we've decided to expand our offerings.
- Our efforts will encompass several things.
- First we'll attempt to return as much as possible to reuse through refurbishment.
- Second, as part of our responsibility to our community, we hope to return much of this technology to reuse for children and their education and to help in that effort we'll be offering free computers to those in need at least twice a year through a free tag sale format.
- Third, At this time in conjunction with carefully selected environmentally responsible recycling partners we'll be ensuring NONE of what we collect winds up in landfills or digital dumps in asia, africa or anywhere else.
- Precious metals & glass will go to responsible smelters for reclamitation who in the process incinerate all hazardous material. Only smelters who exceed EPA regulations are used. No foreign smoke and pollutant belching smelters will be or are tolerated..
- Plastics will go to responsible reclamation companies who use it for things like making new cases for TV's, building materials and other responsible reuse
- If we're sucessful future plans call for training and retraining programs to help people gain the knowledge and experience necessary to gain working employment in the IT industry and beyond.
