Shipping Your Laptop To Us
First A Recommendation
Make it easy on yourself and ensure your laptop is perfectly protected. Fed Ex sells a specially designed laptop shipping box and it is the best solution for shipping a laptop we know of. It costs $10.00 and is worth every penny. It is reconfigured with foam to cradle and protect your laptop. It includes an anti static bag which is an important component in ensuring it doesn't get "zapped" and destroyed electrostatically in transit. The reinforced cardboard is very heavy and the packing instructions are printed on the side. You'll have to wrap the box in brown paper if you decide to ship with other than Fed Ex but it's still worth the effort.
For Those Who Opt To Package It Themselves.........
- We understand that there may not be a Fed Ex location near you where you can purchase this box so please follow our recommendations carefully. If your laptop is not well packaged we will use the shipping fee to send your laptop back to you without working on it.
- Obtain a large enough box to pack it into. It should have at least 3-4 inches of packing room all around the laptop to allow for padding. The box a case of beer comes in is NOT strong enough. If you can crease the cardboard ANYWHERE on the box without too much effort it's not strong enough .Think Banana box strength at the very least but make sure it encloses completely, not like a banana box with holes.
- Obtain some bubble wrap, the stuff with the big bubbles and resist the urge to pop the bubbles.
- Slide your filled out and signed release form(Click Here For Form)along with a money order for $134.00 ($99.00 + $25.00 Shipping) per conveyed instructions between the lcd and keyboard of your laptop and close it.
- Seal your laptop in a plastic bag, preferably anti static type but the idea is as much to keep out moisture as it is to avoid a static "zap" Remove as much air as possible when sealing.
- Completely enclose the laptop carefully in bubble wrap, taping it all together. Pay particular attention to the corners of the laptop adding small pieces as necessary to ensure complete coverage.
- Now do it again. Yep, it should be double wrapped. Not twice around the first time but two separate layers at least.
- In the box, set your padding (foam is best) on the bottom, covering the entire bottom and at least 2 inches deep. You may use packing peanuts but we suggest the anti static types not the ones that stick together those are a hazard to your laptop.
- Set your bubble wrapped laptop in the box in the center.
- Fill snugly but not tightly around the laptop and up to the top of the box. Slight overfill is good, underfill is unacceptable. You'll be doing a "shake test" and you don't want it sliding around inside at all. Conversely you don't want packaging "tight" as it'll transmit shocks to your laptop if it is. (Think package handlers in a shipping warehouse tossing it across a room)
- Tape box closed along all seams using a good quality sealing tape.
- Select your shipping, ensure you insure your laptop, obtain a tracking number and send it to us.
